Always look on the bright side of life …

OK, if you want to get the negative spin on the Mets, go to all those other blogs. If you want to know why it’s a good thing to get swept 4 in Atlanta to go under 500 for the first time in years, I’m probably the only game in town:

  • Saved our overworked bullpen 4 innings of work by not pitching any ninth innings. Seriously, dudes, we 22 games in 21 days, got to rest those arms.
  • David Wright had the opportunity to make a baserunning blunder. One day maybe Endy Chavez will have a similar opportunity (not including nearly getting thrown out trying to steal third last September when he pinch ran for Alou with Delgado up last September. Pinch running doesn’t count).
  • They did not have to fly all the way across country without an off day last night, like they do on June 1. They only have to fly halfway across.
  • Also unlike June 1, they don’t have to fly after an 8 PM start, to land around 6 AM the day of a game. Here they get to fly after a 7 PM start. And they cleverly let Tim Hudson make quick work of them. Good thinking!
  • Carlos Beltran homered and is now on pace to hit 15 this year.
  • Claudio Vargas pitched poorly enough Tuesday that the Mets could pinch hit for him after 66 pitches, making him available to lead us in a nationally televised game tomorrow.
  • We now have 2 healthy back up catchers on the roster (assuming you don’t think arthritis is a serious health problem).
  • Church’s concussion wasn’t enough to put him on the DL, so we only have 2 outfielders on the DL.
  • Our closer is so fresh that we let him mop up sometimes
  • In our 4th game in Atlanta we finally got our starter into the 6th inning.

So cheer up, naysayers at those other blogs. That means you Adam Blame … everyone Rubin at Surfing the Mets, and you Triple Yikes Matthew Cerone over at MetsBlog. There’s always a silver lining.
