Had to change the tagline

by Gil Reich on July 28, 2008

I was pretty confident that “Like a drug addiction, but without the highs” would serve as a useful tagline forever. Hey, these are the Mets. But, alas, there’s been this strange feeling in Metsville the last few weeks. Sort of combines that Spring is in the Air feeling we get BEFORE the season starts with that soft, sweet Joy of Success feeling we get when we crush our children at Monopoly. Bad example. But you get the point. When yesterday’s game started turning sweet and fun, when Delgado hit that opposite field game winning double off Romero on Thursday … just this strange good feeling. Like that really surprising feeling in January / February when the loser Giants started winning big games. So, I’ve stopped yelling at my wife and kids, dropped the road rage, and started enjoying the bliss of watching happy people in Mets uniforms personifying excellence. Who knew? So we’ll go with “Because everything feels better when the Mets win,” and hope we can keep it. I know, many will say there’s something pathetic about needing a baseball team to help you feel better. But let’s look at it the other way. As using a baseball team to re-connect with excellence, success, and joy. And then sharing those feelings with others. Would it be better if we could feel those things without baseball? Maybe. But some people need chocolate. Some need TV. Some need much worse stuff. Let’s go Mets.
