It's not because Willy failed. It's because I don't want Yankees. You kids today don't understand. But one day your kid is going to say "Hey, how about Derek Jeter becomes the Mets manager?" Or Jimmy Rollins. Or Chipper Jones. Or Yadier Molina. Or Pat Burrell. No!!! I don't care if he's the best manager in baseball history. Baseball isn't just a business where we're trying to do well. It's also about enjoying rooting for your people. In fairness, Mattingly, like Jeter, was always a class guy. So it's not like having to root for Victorino or Clemens. But I've suffered too much teasing at the hands of Yankee fans. Having to root for Mattingly -- no offense to him -- would make the game that much less enjoyable for me. No more Yankees!!
