OK, it’s my fault. I was on such a high after Santana’s complete game against the Cardinals that the old tagline “Like a drug addiction, but without the highs” was just too inaccurate. The Beltran catch, the 3 homers, Santana’s 2 hits … everything just felt so wonderful. First place. The great July. The Mets smiling and enjoying themselves, and looking like everything you’d ever want to root for in a baseball team. I changed the tagline to “Because everything feels better when the Mets win.”

I’ve been a Met fan long enough that I really should have known what was coming next.

We lost 4 out of 5 with the new tagline. Coincidence? If you’ve been reading my statistical entries, you’ll know that I don’t really believe in silly math concepts like “statistical significance.”

The bullpen got hit hard in all 4 losses. Last night had a 2 run lead in the bottom of the ninth. We were 2 games up in first place before last Saturday’s games. Now we’re in 3rd place, 2 games out.

So it’s time to go back. Except we’ll have to change it slightly, since the other one was slightly inaccurate. So now it’s “Like a drug addiction, but with fewer highs and lower lows.” And it’s staying until we win the World Series.
